MDM

The Mozambican Democratic Movement (MDM) is a political party in Mozambique that emerged as a significant force in the country's political landscape in the late 2000s. Founded in March 2009 by Daviz Simango, who was then the mayor of Beira, Mozambique's second-largest city, the MDM was established as a breakaway faction from the country's main opposition party at the time, the Mozambique National Resistance (RENAMO). The formation of the MDM was a response to internal disputes within RENAMO and a desire to create a more inclusive, democratic, and progressive alternative to…   both RENAMO and the ruling party, the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO).

The MDM's values and political platform are centered around promoting democracy, good governance, and the rule of law in Mozambique. The party advocates for greater transparency and accountability in government, as well as the decentralization of political power to ensure more local governance and community participation in decision-making processes. Economic development, particularly through the support of small and medium-sized enterprises, education, and healthcare improvement, are also key priorities for the MDM. The party emphasizes the importance of social justice and aims to address issues of inequality and poverty by promoting policies that ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities for all Mozambicans.
